This exhibition has ended.
Spatial calligraphy that looks flat on camera but reads as a three-dimensional glass-like sculpture to the naked eye, in the Frozen Transparency space. On the museum's site until 7 November 2026.
Museum websitePoint your phone at the brushstroke and the screen shows flat calligraphy. Look up and the same stroke hangs in the room as a solid shape, like a sculpture set in glass. teamLab built the work on that gap between what a camera records and what your eyes take in.
It isn't a fixed display. The stroke comes from Continuous Trajectories: One Stroke, which crosses out of its own display into other artworks, and this piece begins only when it is drawn as far as the Frozen Transparency space. teamLab calls the technique Spatial Calligraphy: a brushstroke rebuilt in three dimensions for its depth, speed and power, then flattened again. It makes this the one teamLab work where the photo for your feed is, by design, the worse version.
It is in the Borderless World section and comes with the general ticket, which is priced by date for adults. Photos are allowed, tripods and selfie sticks are not. The museum lists it until 7 November.
The camera test
Look at the brushstroke on your phone screen, then without it: on screen it is flat calligraphy, in the room it reads as a solid form, like a sculpture in glass.
The stroke arriving
