Suntory Museum of Art

Founded in 1961 under the theme "Art in Life," the Suntory Museum of Art holds around 3,000 works of Japanese art — lacquerware, ceramics, glass, dyed textiles and paintings — including one National Treasure and numerous Important Cultural Properties and Important Art Objects. Since 2007 it has occupied a Kengo Kuma-designed space on the third floor of Tokyo Midtown Galleria in Roppongi, after earlier homes in Marunouchi and Akasaka, and reopened in 2020 after a renovation. Rather than a fixed permanent display, the museum runs a rotating program of thematic special exhibitions drawn from its own holdings and outside loans.
