Free off-site projection of cascading wedding flowers on the Humboldt Bank Building, 785 Market St, nightly twilight–10pm (paused 4–13 Dec).
Red, white and yellow wedding flowers keep tumbling down the front of an old bank on Market Street. The flowers are a computer animation by Los Angeles artist Jennifer Steinkamp, and the bank is the Beaux-Arts Humboldt Bank Building at 785 Market, where they fill a section 95 feet high and 46 feet wide.
The work dates from 2008 and belongs to SFMOMA, and this is the first time it has been shown outdoors at this scale. Its title borrows Billy Idol's 1982 hit White Wedding, though SFMOMA points out the flowers run against the song's darker undertones. You stand at the top of Yerba Buena Lane, look up, and that is the whole show. It's also the one wedding this year where nobody asks when it's your turn.
Yerba Buena Partnership pitched it as art for the hours when the area's museums are shut. It runs nightly from twilight to 10pm, is free with no ticket, and pauses from 4 to 13 December.
The flower cascade
Animated red, white and yellow wedding flowers pour down the facade, a 2008 digital work from SFMOMA's collection shown outdoors at monumental scale for the first time.
The 95-foot canvas
Look for the projection filling a 95-by-46-foot section of the Humboldt Bank Building's Beaux-Arts front, where Market Street meets Yerba Buena Lane.
You can only come by day: the projection runs from twilight to 10pm.
