iMinnesota Street ProjectDogpatch
Shepard Fairey's outdoor Frida Kahlo mural, made alongside his Toyroom Gallery show Fractured, on Indiana Street at 1231 25th St.
Frida Kahlo looks out from the left half of a Dogpatch wall, and on the right a black smokestacked factory sprouts a red tulip above the words GREEN POWER. Shepard Fairey says that pairing is the point: Kahlo used flowers and greenery as symbols of health and fertility, and he uses them to argue for environmental responsibility.
He painted it with Dan Flores and Rob Zagula in June 2025, alongside Fractured, his show at Harman Projects with Toyroom Gallery, which closed that July. Torn-paper edges cut through the portrait, with patterned strips and scraps of Spanish lettering, "Homenaje a" among them. Fairey also wrote that he chose her because she stayed outspoken while being dismissed as "Diego Rivera's wife who painted as a hobby."
You don't go in anywhere: it's the outside wall at 1231 25th St., facing Indiana Street, free to see through 9 July 2027 and on the same street as Minnesota Street Project's 1150 25th St. building.
The Green Power factory
Look right for Fairey's Green Power motif: a black factory with smokestacks growing a red tulip, set on a red field with GREEN POWER lettered beneath.
The torn-paper seams
Look for the ripped diagonal edges running through Kahlo's portrait, where patterned strips and fragments of Spanish lettering show through.
Rise Above
Beside the tulip, two gold arrows point upward over the words RISE ABOVE, painted into the same red field.
You're hoping to see Fractured too: the gallery show this mural was painted for closed in July 2025.
