iMAAT – Museum of Art, Architecture and TechnologyBelém
A mixed-reality headset journey through death and rebirth, directed and scored by Paulo Furtado (The Legendary Tigerman). Sessions last 15 to 18 minutes, for up to 6 people, pre-booked.
Preview: written before the show opened
You put on a mixed-reality headset inside MAAT Central, the old Tejo Power Station, and for 15 to 18 minutes the line between the room around you and what exists only digitally starts to blur. Paulo Furtado, the Portuguese musician who records as The Legendary Tigerman, directed it and composed the sound.
The piece is built as a rite of passage between death and rebirth. You move through a sequence of spaces and soundscapes and can interact with them, rather than watching from a distance. The script is by filmmaker Eduardo Brito, who adapted Agustina Bessa-Luís's novel A Sibila, and the technology is by Yolanda Correia, who worked on Stranger Things VR.
Sessions take six people at most and must be booked ahead. In mid-October MAAT had not yet opened bookings or published a price, so check the tickets page before planning around it.
