Opened in 1889 in a domed Ringstrasse palace by Gottfried Semper and Carl von Hasenauer, the Naturhistorisches Museum Wien holds more than 30 million objects, one of the most important natural science collections in the world. Its 39 exhibition halls run from minerals and gemstones through the world's largest meteorite display to the dinosaur hall and the Venus Cabinet, where the 29,500-year-old Venus of Willendorf is shown. The museum faces the Kunsthistorisches Museum across Maria-Theresien-Platz and marks 150 years since its founding in 2026.
