Founded in 1992 in a yellow temporary container on Karlsplatz by Adolf Krischanitz, Kunsthalle Wien is the City of Vienna's exhibition house for contemporary art. It has no collection; instead it stages changing shows of international and Viennese artists. Since 2001 its main venue sits in the MuseumsQuartier, in the former imperial Winter Riding Hall extended by Ortner & Ortner, with a second glass pavilion at Karlsplatz.
