Austria's largest art museum opened in 1891 in a palatial Ringstrasse building by Gottfried Semper and Karl von Hasenauer, facing its twin, the Natural History Museum, across Maria-Theresien-Platz. It holds the imperial Habsburg collections: a Picture Gallery with the world's largest group of Pieter Bruegel the Elder paintings alongside Raphael, Titian, Vermeer, Rubens and Velázquez; the Kunstkammer with Cellini's Saliera; and Egyptian, Near Eastern, Greek and Roman antiquities. The domed café beneath the cupola is a sight in itself.
