Joint show of the 2026 prize winners, recent graduates of Vienna's Academy of Fine Arts and University of Applied Arts. At Karlsplatz.
Preview: written before the show opened
Valentino Skarwan rebuilt a demolished petrol station in Guatemala from a single photograph. Fragments of it stand in the glass pavilion at Karlsplatz with sculptures that recall fuel hoses and jerry cans, a recording of echoing ambient sound plays through the space, and the whole set doubles as the stage for Skarwan's performance. A petrol station, and not a Leberkässemmel in sight.
Lotti Brockmann's Ten Agents of Deterioration runs on the weather. Performers keep reading humidity and temperature off analogue and digital gauges and off their own bodies, and turn the numbers into choreography drawn from Brockmann's cheerleading background. You walk in as one more condition: visitors, weather and the performers' own needs keep reshaping the piece, and texts around the room lay out the personal, economic and institutional conditions behind it.
Both are fresh graduates, picked from over 100 submissions from Vienna's two art universities. Tickets are €14, free under 19, pay what you can on Thursdays 17:00 to 20:00, and free on 27 December and 31 January.
The Guatemalan petrol station
Look for architectural fragments of a demolished station, rebuilt from a photograph, with sculptural forms that recall fuel hoses and jerry cans.
The performers with their gauges
In Brockmann's room, performers check humidity and temperature on analogue and digital devices and translate the readings into cheerleading-derived moves.
The texts on the conditions
Texts placed throughout Brockmann's space spell out the money, labour, institutions and emotions it took to make the work.
Under-19s go free.
