Punta della Dogana

Punta della Dogana occupies the Dogana da Mar, the old maritime customs house at the triangular tip of Dorsoduro where the Grand Canal meets the Giudecca Canal. Restored by Tadao Ando and opened in 2009, it shows temporary exhibitions drawn from François Pinault's contemporary art collection, run jointly with Palazzo Grassi. Raw brick walls and timber trusses frame large-scale installations, and the point outside offers one of Venice's classic views across the Bacino to San Marco and San Giorgio Maggiore.
