Born of Teodoro Correr's 1830 bequest of art and documents on Venetian history, the museum has occupied the Procuratie Nuove and Napoleonic Wing on Piazza San Marco since 1922. Its route runs through Neoclassical rooms built for Napoleon's court, with a notable Antonio Canova collection, into twenty rooms on the life, coinage, navy and festivals of the Venetian Republic. The upstairs Picture Gallery traces Venetian painting from Paolo Veneziano to Giovanni Bellini, Vittore Carpaccio and Antonello da Messina. Admission is via the St Mark's Square Museums ticket, which also covers the Doge's Palace, the National Archaeological Museum and the monumental rooms of the Biblioteca Marciana.
