More in Paris

You press the button for the lift, and down by the floor a small animatronic mouse pokes out of a hole in the wall and starts to stutter. That is Ryan Gander's I... I... I... (2019), stuck in the same loop forever. It is the only mouse in the 1st arrondissement anyone is pleased to find in a wall.

This isn't a show with rooms. It is three works placed in and around the building to answer its architecture. Martin Kippenberger's fragmented 1989 streetlamp, red bulb and all, is woven into the Bourse itself. Outside, Philippe Parreno's Mont Analogue tops the Medici column, the Renaissance tower left from Catherine de' Medici's palace, where legend puts her astrologers watching the stars. Its coloured light codes René Daumal's unfinished novel about climbing a mountain that joins earth and sky.

Gander and Kippenberger come with a museum ticket (€15, or €10 for ages 18 to 26). Parreno's light is aimed at the city and switches on at night. Fridays run to 9pm.

Look for

  • Gander's stuttering mouse

Look by the lift, at floor level: an animatronic mouse peers out of a hole it seems to have chewed in the wall and stammers through its loop.

  • Kippenberger's drunk streetlamp

Look for a streetlamp bent and broken into fragments with a red bulb, one of the 1989 series Kippenberger made as his late-night alter egos.

  • Mont Analogue on the Medici column

After dark, look up at the free-standing column beside the dome: its top pulses with shifting colours, a 179-minute light sequence coding Daumal's novel.
