The instruments here are made of stainless steel, aluminium, cardboard and inflatable cushions, and none of them is plugged in. French brothers Bernard and François Baschet started building these sound sculptures in the 1950s. At the opening in April, the curators played a multi-timbral one for the crowd.

The curators run the University of Barcelona's Baschet Sound Sculpture Workshop, which François helped set up in 2009, and the museum owns three Baschet instruments. The brothers took their work into schools and hospitals, and the show treats the sculptures as open works for playing and listening. Somewhere in your storage room, last summer's Bogatell lilo is badly underachieving.

You get to play them on a free curator-led visit-workshop of about 45 minutes (17 October and 29 November at 11:30, 5 November and 21 January at 18:00; book ahead). Otherwise it's the museum ticket, €6, free on Thursdays 6pm to 9pm and Sundays from 3pm, on the second floor of L'Auditori.

With kids

Under-16s get into the museum free. On 21 November (11:00 and 12:00) the Gabinet Baschet performance lets children aged 5 and up join two performers on the instruments, for €8 and about 45 minutes.
