iDisseny Hub Barcelona – Museu del DissenySant Martí
30 pieces from the 29th Enjoia't Contemporary Jewellery Awards organised by A-FAD: 15 professional and 15 student works by makers from more than ten countries.
Céline Traynor's winning piece is a run of small brass and silver squares on a silver-plated ball chain, each stamped with a date. You can turn the squares and close the piece so their backs disappear. She made it after her 60th birthday and her father's Alzheimer's diagnosis, and the hidden faces stand for memory going.
This is the 29th edition of A-FAD's Enjoia't contemporary jewellery awards: 30 shortlisted pieces, 15 by professionals and 15 by students, from 15 countries between Japan and Argentina. The materials are the story. The student winner, Anne Blok, cross-stitched Tupperware plastic with her grandmother's Zeeland mourning beads. Seulgi Kwon works in silicone and pigment, and Yaning Liu UV-prints bubble wrap and sets it with freshwater pearls.
With 30 pieces it's a short visit, easy to add to the museum's permanent floors. Entry is free, on level -1. The Glòries entrance is closed for now: go in at Carrer d'Irena Sendler, 1.
