For centuries the residence of the Doge and the heart of Venetian government, the Doge's Palace on St Mark's Square is a masterpiece of Venetian Gothic. Visitors pass from the courtyard and Giants' Staircase through the Institutional Chambers, including the vast Great Council hall decorated by Tintoretto and Veronese, to the Armoury, and across the Bridge of Sighs into the New Prisons. It is run by the Fondazione Musei Civici di Venezia (MUVE).
