54 new works by 35 resident artists of Sindang Creative Arcade (17th cohort), read through five qualities: generation, transformation, accumulation, structure and connection.
Preview: written before the show opened
All 35 artists in this show work in the same place: studios in the basement of Seoul Jungang Market, which the Seoul Foundation for Arts and Culture opened in 2009 as the city's first studio space for craft and design. This is its 17th cohort, showing 54 new works from the residency year.
You won't find a ceramics room and a metal room. The work is sorted by five qualities instead (generation, transformation, accumulation, structure, connection), so a pot can share a keyword with a textile. Lee Somyung was a LOEWE Foundation Craft Prize finalist, and Lim Jaehyun and Cho Hyeyoung reached the Seoul Yoolizzy Craft Award final.
Expect one or two pieces per artist rather than a deep look at anyone. Entry is free, on the 1st floor of Exhibition Building 1; closed Mondays, open until 21:00 on Fridays. On 31 October at 14:00 the sculptor Kim Yun-shin talks with three of the residents in the Education Building auditorium.
