Raymond Meeks: Assemblage

Now showing19 September 2026 – 14 November 2026·Free

Raymond Meeks photographs provisional sculptures he built from relics in ruined welding and wood shops near Kingston, NY, shot over 18 months, at Casemore Gallery.

Somewhere in the woods outside Kingston, New York, a welding shop and a wood shop were left to rot. Raymond Meeks lived nearby for four years before he found a way in, and then, he says, "it's the only place I wanted to be." Over 18 months he rearranged what the workers left behind into temporary sculptures and photographed them.

You see the results on the walls, but also in book cradles and on rough wooden tables, laid out next to scrap he brought back from the site. Meeks prints on transparencies, mixed papers and used book pages, and a few pictures from earlier series, Halfstory Halflife and The Inhabitants, are mixed in. Anyone who has dragged a chair home from a Bernal Heights sidewalk free pile knows the impulse; Meeks gave his 18 months.

Come for the printing as much as the pictures. It's a commercial gallery show at Casemore, Suite 102 in Minnesota Street Project: free, Tuesday to Saturday 11 to 5, until 14 November.

Look for

  • The worksite tables

Look down as well as up: prints sit in book cradles and on rough wooden tables beside actual debris Meeks carried out of the Cranesville shops.

  • Pictures on borrowed paper

Check what each image is printed on, because Meeks switches between transparencies, different papers and pages taken from used books.

Good for

  • Cheap Culture
  • Locals Who've Seen It All
  • Nerding Out
