Megan Broughton: False Horizon

Last chance12 September 2026 – 31 October 2026·Free

Copper-plate etchings of floating ice from Megan Broughton's sailboat residency between Greenland and Iceland, at The San Francisco Arts Education Project.

A temperature inversion can bend light so that the horizon you see sits above or below the real one. That mirage gives this show its name. Megan Broughton spent the MaréMotrice residency on a sailboat between Greenland and Iceland, watching what the weather showed and what it hid.

You climb the stairs at 1275 Minnesota Street to SFArtsED's Atrium Gallery, where the results are copper-plate etchings: forms like floating ice on water, layered plate over plate, in a process that swings between control and chance. The inversion behind a false horizon is the same one that pins Karl the Fog over the Sunset all summer.

The show belongs to Teaching/Practice, a rotating display of work by the nonprofit's artist mentors, paired with an interview about their teaching; Broughton's is on her website. Entry is free and the gallery is open whenever the building is, 11am to 6pm, Tuesday to Saturday.
