Museo Nacional de Artes DecorativasRetiro / Paseo del Prado
Retrospective of jewellery designer Helena Rohner, Gold Medal for Fine Arts, spanning three decades of porcelain, wood and ceramic pieces set in precious metals.
Preview: written before the show opened
Silver set against porcelain, wood or ceramic: that pairing is what Helena Rohner, a self-taught designer from the Canary Islands with a degree in political science, has built her name on since she founded her Madrid firm in 1995. She now holds Spain's Gold Medal for Fine Arts, and this show covers all thirty years.
The museum gives the three decades three rooms, and says each decade has its own personality. Finished jewellery shares the space with objects, prototypes, photographs and collaborations; she has worked with Paul Smith, Georg Jensen and the Spanish fashion designer David Delfín. If you know her work from the Thyssen shop down the Paseo del Prado, this is the workshop behind the display case.
Like all the museum's temporary shows, it's free. The museum opens Tuesday to Sunday until 15:00, plus Thursdays 17:00 to 20:00. It runs from 29 October to 31 January 2027.
