You start under the Pórtico, the palace's original entrance, inside a large installation of wood, fabric and light modelled on the crates that carry artworks. At its centre hangs Alberto Arrúe's Pescadora, chosen as a nod to Bilbao, where Suarez opened its first jewellery shop in 1943, with gouaches, jewellers' tools and workshop objects around it.

Upstairs, ten paintings from the collection share the first floor with Suarez jewels old and new, each pairing picked for a match in form, colour, light or symbol: Sofonisba Anguissola's Eleonora de Medici, Carreño de Miranda's Carlos II, Luis Paret's La Tienda. The route ends in the Sala Sinfonía, the brand's new collection staged by artist Amaya Hernández, and in the garden pergola. Serrano is Madrid's street for jewellers' windows, and this is the only one on it where the jewels share a room with Carlos II.

Suarez organised the show itself, and no critic has reviewed it. It's included in the €8 museum ticket and closes on 25 October.

Look for

  • Strata

A one-off art deco jewel made to join the museum's collection, with a row of emeralds for the garden's geometry and two aquamarines for the Retiro ponds and Paula Florido's favourite blue.

  • The crate installation in the Pórtico

Wood, fabric and light built to look like the crates that carry artworks, with Arrúe's Pescadora at the centre and jewellers' tools and gouaches around it.

  • Eleonora de Medici, Sofonisba Anguissola

A portrait from around 1580 on the first floor, one of ten collection paintings set beside Suarez jewels chosen to echo their form, colour or symbolism.

  • The Sala Sinfonía

Amaya Hernández's installation for the new Sinfonía collection, yellow gold and diamond rings, earcuffs and necklaces drawn from the stroke of the 1987 logo running from S to Z.

  • The garden pergola

The historic pergola in Parque Florido, reworked with ceramics by Objet Particulier and Nuet Ceramics, which stays at the museum after the show closes.
