Barcelona's maritime museum occupies the Drassanes Reials, the medieval Royal Shipyards begun in the 13th century and considered the largest and most complete medieval shipyards preserved anywhere. Beneath their Gothic arches, permanent galleries trace Mediterranean galleys, a 14th-century merchant shipwreck and three centuries of Catalan shipping, centred on a full-size replica of the Royal Galley. A programme of temporary exhibitions runs alongside, several of them free in the entrance hall and the Mirador space.
