The Ca' d'Oro is one of Venice's finest late-Gothic palaces, its lace-like marble façade rising straight from the Grand Canal. Baron Giorgio Franchetti bought and restored it from 1891 and gave it with his collection to the Italian state in 1916; the Galleria opened in 1927. Highlights include Mantegna's St Sebastian in its own marble chapel, Tullio Lombardo's Double Portrait, Titian's frescoes from the Fondaco dei Tedeschi and Flemish and Dutch paintings. The museum has been closed since 2 February 2026 for a full renovation and reinstallation, with reopening planned for spring 2027, the gallery's centenary.
