Founded in 1975 by Max Allen and Simon Waegemaekers above an ice cream shop in Mirvish Village, the Textile Museum of Canada has occupied its home on Centre Avenue, steps from City Hall and Chinatown, since 1989. Its collection of more than 15,000 fabrics, ceremonial cloths, garments, carpets and quilts covers some 2,000 years and over 200 regions of the world. Rotating exhibitions pair these holdings with contemporary artists and designers, and the museum also runs hands-on workshops and houses the H.N. Pullar Library for textile research.
