Founded in 1979 by artists sharing a darkroom, Gallery 44 is a non-profit artist-run centre devoted to photographic and image-based practices. Since 1994 it has occupied a suite in the 401 Richmond creative hub, where it presents exhibitions by local, national and international artists across its Main Space, Vitrines, Members' Gallery and Production Gallery. It also runs workshops, youth programs and production facilities for a membership of over 500 artists.
