Founded in 1958, Moderna Museet holds one of Europe's leading collections of 20th- and 21st-century art, from Picasso, Matisse and Duchamp to Robert Rauschenberg's famous "Monogram" and a world-class Surrealist holding. Its Rafael Moneo-designed building (1998) on the island of Skeppsholmen shares an entrance with ArkDes and hosts major temporary exhibitions alongside long-running collection displays, with a sculpture park outside featuring Niki de Saint Phalle and Alexander Calder.
