Opened in 2002 in a Stephan Braunfels building crowned by a vast central rotunda, the Pinakothek der Moderne unites four independent collections on one ticket: the Sammlung Moderne Kunst (20th- and 21st-century art), Die Neue Sammlung – The Design Museum, the Architekturmuseum der TUM, and the Staatliche Graphische Sammlung München (prints and drawings). It anchors Munich's Kunstareal museum district alongside the Alte and Neue Pinakothek.
