Opened in 1986, the Museo Franz Mayer houses the collection of German-born financier Franz Mayer: silver, ceramics, furniture, textiles, folding screens and paintings from New Spain, Europe and Asia. It occupies the former Hospital de San Juan de Dios, a 16th-century foundation beside the Alameda, arranged around a tranquil arcaded cloister. Alongside the permanent collection it is Mexico City's leading venue for design and photography exhibitions, including the annual World Press Photo show.
