The museum inside the Palacio de Bellas Artes opened in 1934, two months after the palace itself, to showcase the best of Mexican art, above all muralism. Its upper floors hold a permanent collection of murals by José Clemente Orozco, Diego Rivera, David Alfaro Siqueiros, Rufino Tamayo, Jorge González Camarena, Roberto Montenegro, Manuel Rodríguez Lozano and Rina Lazo, including Rivera's Man, Controller of the Universe. The main galleries host major temporary exhibitions of Mexican and international art.
