Los Reconocimientos

None of the eleven groups of objects in this show has a title. You walk into the ground-floor temporary hall and work out for yourself why these things sit together, roughly what the museum's staff do when a new piece arrives and needs classifying.

The collection behind it holds more than 200,000 pieces, not all of them clothing. Most of what's here is tied to everyday Spanish habits of the last two centuries, though a dress by Agatha Ruiz de la Prada is in the mix. Each area was curated by a different specialist from the teams that catalogue, conserve and research the collection. The missing labels are deliberate, so for once nobody in your group can read the wall aloud and pass it off as knowledge.

Entry is free until the hall is full, and museum guides lead free tours on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 12:00. Upstairs on the first floor, teenagers from the DiseñAR-T programme show work inspired by this exhibition.
