The Museo del Traje is Spain's national museum of clothing, housing over 160,000 garments, accessories and textiles spanning the Middle Ages to the present day. Its permanent galleries move from historic and regional dress to twentieth-century haute couture by Balenciaga, Fortuny and Pertegaz, alongside a busy rotating exhibitions programme. The museum doubles as the Centro de Investigación del Patrimonio Etnológico, a research centre for Spain's ethnological heritage, and occupies a modernist building from the 1970s near Ciudad Universitaria.
