The Museo de América holds one of the world's great collections on the peoples and cultures of the Americas, from Paleolithic times to the present. Opened on its current Moncloa site in 1965, it traces pre-Hispanic archaeology, colonial-era art and Indigenous ethnography through galleries organised around knowledge, society, religion and communication. Highlights include Inca goldwork, the Quimbaya treasure, the Tudela Codex and a celebrated series of casta paintings.
