The title is Baudelaire, reversed. In Les Fleurs du mal he wrote "Je suis la plaie et le couteau", I am the wound and the knife; Roberta Marrero's show puts the blade first. The museum traces her influences from Baudelaire to Lana del Rey, by way of Rimbaud, Patti Smith, Amy Winehouse, punk and dada.
Marrero (1972-2024) was a Canarian artist, poet and writer, and a leading figure of queer culture in Spain. The museum presents her poems, collages, graphic novels and her DJ sets as a conversation with Romantic myth: the dandy and the poète maudit, remade as an autobiographical, trans and queer self-portrait. She borrowed from Alejandra Pizarnik, Jean Genet and Tom of Finland as freely as from pop.
You don't need a ticket: the show is in the Temporary Exhibitions Hall and entry is free. It opens on 30 October, part of the government's Cultura Orgullosa programme, and runs until 31 January 2027. From November, hours are Tuesday to Saturday 9:30-18:30, Sundays 10:00-15:00.
