The 40 winning photos of the museum's sixth photography contest, run with the Planetario de Madrid on the theme of Madrid's sky, in the Patio Dorado.
First prize went to a stone lion. Antonio Farto Casado's El guardián del firmamento is a close-up of a lion sculpture under a cloudy sky, picked from entries to the museum's sixth photography contest, which asked for any picture where Madrid and its sky share the frame.
The 40 finalists hang in the Patio Dorado, and about a quarter of them put one of the city's statues against the sky. You find Ganymede on a Gran Vía building with his hand on the moon, Diana on a hotel roof aiming her arrow at it, and Carlos III in Puerta del Sol beside the Tío Pepe sign. The contest was run with the Planetario de Madrid and inspired by the total solar eclipse, and the jury's favourite is a lion looking at clouds.
The rules banned photomontages and collages, and all 40 now belong to the museum's photography collection. It's free, open Tuesday to Sunday 10:00 to 20:00, until 28 February 2027.
