Family-friendly look at how filmmakers create movie zombies, set in a playful pretend cemetery with an interactive animatronic puppet by Spectral Motion.

Book tickets

You walk into a pretend cemetery on level 4, all eerie visuals and sound, and the centrepiece is an interactive animatronic puppet that Spectral Motion built especially for the museum. The museum's own line is that there's nothing to fear, because it's all movie magic.

The show is about how filmmakers make the undead and where the stories come from. Behind-the-scenes footage from 28 Days Later (2002) shows how a screen zombie is made, and a run of posters, from White Zombie (1932) to Night of the Living Dead (1968), traces how Hollywood turned zombie stories into a classic horror monster. On a floor otherwise given over to horror, the zombies are on babysitting duty.

It's the family-friendly companion to The Horror Show, and Fangoria called it "tame (and interactive) enough for children", though the museum still suggests parental guidance. It's in the Warner Bros. Gallery, included in museum admission ($25 adults, free for 17 and under). The museum is closed Tuesdays.
