Museu Calouste Gulbenkian (Founder's Collection)

The museum shows the private collection of oil magnate Calouste Sarkis Gulbenkian: around six thousand works, a thousand of them on display, running from Ancient Egypt through the Islamic world, China and Japan to European painting, French furniture and René Lalique's jewellery. The modernist building by Ruy Jervis d'Athouguia, Alberto Pessoa and Pedro Cid opened in 1969 and looks onto the Gulbenkian Garden. It reopened on 18 July 2026 after an 18-month renovation that restored its original materials and added a new numismatics room.
