Fundação Arpad Szenes – Vieira da Silva

ArtClosed · Opens 10amFrom €7.5Rato (Metro, Yellow Line)

The Arpad Szenes – Vieira da Silva Foundation museum, opened in 1994, is devoted to the Portuguese painter Maria Helena Vieira da Silva and her Hungarian-born husband Arpad Szenes, who lived and worked together for over five decades between Paris, Rio de Janeiro and Lisbon. It occupies the former Royal Silk Factory built under the Marquis of Pombal after the 1755 earthquake, converted into calm, light-filled galleries. Its collection spans the couple's painting, drawing and printmaking alongside works by their friends and contemporaries, shown in rotating exhibition cycles with contemporary artists. Vieira da Silva's former house and studio, the Casa-Atelier on nearby Alto de São Francisco, is also open to visitors free of charge.
