Statens Naturhistoriske Museum, run by the University of Copenhagen, holds the largest scientific natural history collection in the Nordic countries, roughly 14-17 million specimens tracing back to Ole Worm's 17th-century cabinet of curiosities. Its current galleries in the historic Geological Museum building on Øster Voldgade show the Wild Wonderful World treasure exhibition and the Mineral Hall; the Botanical Garden's Victorian Palm House and Butterfly House sit alongside. The Øster Voldgade exhibitions close after 1 November 2026, and a new museum building at Sølvtorvet in the garden's corner opens on 6 March 2027.
