Founded in 1890 as the Danish Museum of Art and Design, Designmuseum Danmark occupies the 18th-century Frederik's Hospital on Bredgade, remodelled by Kaare Klint and Ivar Bentsen in the 1920s. Its collections trace Danish and international design and crafts, with the permanent DANISH MODERN exhibition telling the story of 20th-century Danish design alongside silver, porcelain, Japanese sword mountings and historic table settings. Changing exhibitions and the LABORATORIUM series showcase contemporary designers, and the museum holds Scandinavia's largest design library.
