Posters, books, graphic works and paper installations from more than 25 years of practice by graphic designer Jumping He. Free public tours on Sundays at 15:00.
On a dark wall hangs a pale sheet of paper fanned out into narrow strips, with black lettering running across them. Folds and shadows cut into the lines, so you start reading a word and end up looking at an edge.
Jumping He was born in Hangzhou in 1973, came to Berlin in 1997 to study at the UdK and now runs his studio, Hesign, in both cities. This show covers more than 25 years of his posters, books, graphic works and paper installations, from a 2008 Beijing Olympics poster to his blue-gradient design for Kiel Week 2024. The museum's text says he draws with letters as a calligrapher would and treats the paper as part of the design, most of all in his books.
It suits anyone who works with type or print. Admission is €9 (€6 reduced), or €4 for everyone on the first Wednesday of the month. Free tours run every Sunday at 3pm, and the 104-page German/English catalogue costs €13.
The strip-cut paper work

The Kiel Week 2024 poster
An A0 silkscreen built on a many-faceted blue gradient, the design He made for Kiel Week's 2024 festival.
You came for the Art Nouveau: this is contemporary posters, books and paper works from 2004 to 2025.
