This exhibition has ended.
London artist Ghislaine Leung's Espai 13 show: works made to scores that follow the Fundació's own operating rules, on mutual dependence and fragile structures.
Museum websiteThe art from the last show in this room has been taken down, and that is where Ghislaine Leung's work starts. The walls have not been repainted, the holes have not been filled, the floor has not been swept and the lighting is as it was left. Her score is one line: "The exhibition space is left as it is."
You walk into Espai 13 and the dirt is the work. The room goes uncleaned for the whole run, so the upkeep a gallery usually hides shows by its absence. The show also has Budgets, the show's budget as a spreadsheet grid on the wall, and FJM Edition, made from objects the Fundació was about to throw away. Nobody has swept this room since July, and unlike your shared flat in Gràcia, it's on purpose.
There is little to look at and a lot to think about, so read the curator's interview with Leung on the Fundació's page. Espai 13 is free, and the show closes on 25 October.
The unreset room
Look at the walls and floor: the last show's fixings came out, but the holes stay unfilled, the paint untouched and the dust unswept for the whole run.
Budgets
The exhibition's own budget hangs on the wall as a spreadsheet grid, with columns for shipping, flights, accommodation and production.
FJM Edition
An edition made from objects the Fundació had finished using and was going to throw away.
You want art objects to look at: the main work is an empty, uncleaned room.
