iFundació Joan MiróMontjuïc
Spain's first exhibition on Charlotte Perriand, the pioneering modernist designer from Le Corbusier's atelier and a lifelong friend of Sert and Miró.
The show builds toward a reconstruction of Équipement intérieur d'une habitation, the fitted interior Perriand first showed at the Salon d'Automne in Paris in 1929. Cassina reproduced it, and the museum sets it up as a mediation space at the very end of the route. You walk into a 1929 flat: wardrobes divide one open, double-height room, and wall colour marks out each area.
The exhibition follows her from her early years to 1955, with her exhibition designs as the thread, among them Bar sous le toit (1927) and Salle à manger 28 (1928). It also looks at her friendship with Josep Lluís Sert, who designed this building, and at the artists around the Republican Pavilion: Picasso, Calder and Miró. Perriand attended the Fundació's inauguration at Sert's invitation.
It comes with the general ticket (€18, €17 online). The Fundació is closed on Mondays, and from 1 November it opens 10:00 to 19:00. The curator, Martina Millà, leads tours on 2 December and 23 February at 17:30.
Cassina's reconstruction of her 1929 Équipement intérieur d'une habitation closes the route. Spain's first Perriand show covers her work to 1955, including the 1936 photomural La Grande Misère de Paris and her 1932 Mallorca canoe trip.
The reconstruction of Équipement intérieur d'une habitation
A rebuilt fitted domestic interior, shown at the Salon d'Automne in 1929 and reproduced by Cassina, in a space at the end of the show.
La Grande Misère de Paris
Look for the large 1936 photomural where Perriand set slogans against photographs and statistics on the squalid housing many Parisians lived in.
The Mallorca canoe trip
Photographs and drawings from her 1932 attempt to circle Mallorca by canoe: coastal villages, house interiors, traditional furniture and sailing boats.
Salle à manger 28
The dining room Perriand designed for her own home and showed in Paris in 1928, the project that got her into Le Corbusier's office.
Children under 12 get in free. The Fundació runs a Winter Camp for children on 22 and 23 December alongside the show.
