iMuseu TàpiesEixample
The museum's third Extramural edition: artist Dora García stages performances and interventions around Barcelona, treating the city as a space for critical thought.
Walk along Carrer d'Aragó and look up: a poster almost seven metres long, covered in gold leaf, hangs on the Museu Tàpies facade with one phrase on it, "Resurrect me". The line comes from Mayakovsky, and Dora García has built the whole project around it, treating resurrection as a political demand to bring silenced voices back.
Nothing here hangs in the galleries. The programme is spread across Barcelona until 29 November: golden posters on the city's advertising columns, a seminar on death and resistance, a walk and a film series. On 24 October García leads a 75-minute performative reading through Montjuïc Cemetery, past the graves of Durruti, Companys and Puig Antich and the mass graves of the Civil War.
Come for the events, not for a room. The walk is booked through the museum's site, and the magazine launch afterwards at Mescladís is free with no booking. The project closes with three of García's films at the Filmoteca de Catalunya on 10, 17 and 20 November.
The "Resurrect me" facade
Look up at the old Montaner i Simón publishing house: a gold-leafed poster almost seven metres long carries that single phrase.
Frases de Oro on the advertising columns
Golden posters with García's statements sit among the ads on several Barcelona advertising columns, reviving a project she began in 2021.
The Montjuïc Cemetery walk
On 24 October García reads her way past the graves of Ferrer i Guàrdia, Durruti, Puig Antich and Companys, and the Civil War mass graves.
The Joycean Society at the Filmoteca
Her 2013 film follows a Zurich reading group that has met since 1986 to decipher Finnegans Wake, screened alongside Second Time and Red Love.
You want a show in a gallery: this is street posters, a walk, a seminar and film screenings.
