The CCCB is Barcelona's centre for contemporary culture, focused on the city and urban culture. It occupies part of the Casa de Caritat, a former almshouse built from 1802, which architects Albert Viaplana and Helio Piñón converted in 1993, adding a tilted glass volume that reflects the rooftops. Its large thematic exhibitions mix art, science, history and design, alongside a busy programme of talks, festivals and film. There is no permanent collection; shows change several times a year.
