H'ART Museum occupies the Amstelhof, a monumental 1681 building on the banks of the Amstel that spent three centuries as a home for elderly women before reopening as a museum in 2009. It has no permanent collection of its own: instead it borrows from partner institutions and builds one or two large, immersive exhibitions a year around them. Opened as the Dutch satellite of St Petersburg's State Hermitage, it cut those ties after Russia's invasion of Ukraine in 2022 and relaunched under the H'ART name in 2023, with the British Museum, Centre Pompidou and the Smithsonian as its new partners. Beyond the galleries, visitors can wander the chestnut-shaded inner courtyard, the historic church hall and the Grand Café.
