Founded in 1988 as successor to the world's first Jewish museum (opened 1895), the Jewish Museum Vienna occupies Palais Eskeles on Dorotheergasse, where the core exhibition "Our City!" traces Jewish Vienna from the Middle Ages through the Shoah to the present, alongside a visible storage room and contemporary art. A second site on Judenplatz, seven minutes' walk away, shows the excavated remains of the medieval synagogue destroyed in 1421. One ticket covers both sites within 7 days.
