Known locally as the Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography (TOP Museum), this Tokyo Metropolitan Government institution opened in 1990 and moved to its current building in Yebisu Garden Place in 1995, making it one of Japan's first galleries devoted entirely to photography and moving-image art rather than a single photographer's work. Three exhibition floors run independent, rotating shows drawn from its own collection and touring exhibitions, alongside a cinema and a specialist photography library. The building underwent a major renovation from 2014 to 2016.
