Immersive 360-degree projection experience by Lightroom London spanning six decades of David Hockney's work, narrated by the artist with a score by Nico Muhly.
Preview: written before the show opened
Inside Bay 17, 28 projectors and 1,408 loudspeakers put nearly 250 Hockney works on the walls around you, in a production that took over three years to build.
The show runs in six chapters, with Hockney narrating in his own voice and an original score by the composer Nico Muhly. Topics include perspective, photography, the Grand Canyon and his 1980s opera stage designs, plus video of his "Wagner drives" through Malibu Canyon. This is the Australian premiere, after runs in London, Manchester, Shanghai and Seoul that drew more than 650,000 visitors.
Tickets start at $39.90 plus a $5 booking fee; a $64.90 VIP pass adds priority entry. Carriageworks says to allow 50 to 70 minutes and arrive 5 to 10 minutes early, as late arrivals may not be admitted. Fridays and Saturdays it opens 9am to 7:30pm, and booking after 1pm is quieter.
