Founded in 1849 as the Raffles Library and Museum, this is Singapore's national history museum, housed in a restored 1887 neoclassical building crowned by a stained-glass dome. Its Singapore History Gallery and Life in Singapore galleries trace the island's story from the 14th century to the present, alongside the William Farquhar natural history drawings and the immersive Shaw Foundation Glass Rotunda. It sits in the Civic District, a short walk from the Padang and Fort Canning Park.
