Villa Necchi Campiglio

Built in 1932-35 by architect Piero Portaluppi for the Necchi Campiglio industrial family, this Rationalist villa in a walled garden off Corso Venezia keeps its original furnishings, wood panelling and gadgets, later softened by Tommaso Buzzi's 18th-century-style interiors. Left to FAI (Fondo per l'Ambiente Italiano) in 2001, it also houses the Claudia Gian Ferrari collection of 20th-century Italian art, the de' Micheli collection of Venetian 18th-century painting and the Guido Sforni drawings. The garden, with Milan's first private swimming pool and a tennis court, is a calm pocket in the city centre.
