From the Center: Looking at Lucy Lippard

Two of Lucy Lippard's exhibitions had only a number for a title: 557,087 in 1969 and 955,000 in 1970. Both included Land artists, and both turn up in this show about the critic and curator whose writing shaped Conceptual, feminist and Land art.

You see it by taking the stairs. It fills the stairwell galleries on the second, third and fourth floors, one theme per floor: women artists and Minimalism, art and activism, and land, borders and territory. More than 40 artists are in it, mostly from the MCA Collection, including Ana Mendieta, Howardena Pindell and Adrian Piper, alongside archival material, interviews and recordings. It's the one MCA show you can miss by taking the elevator.

It's for people who want the ideas behind the art: each section grows out of Lippard's books and shows, from Six Years (1973) to Mixed Blessings (1990). Admission covers it ($22, $19 for Chicago residents, free for 18 and under), and Illinois residents get in free on Tuesdays from 5 to 9pm.
